As part of Black History Month, YolanDa Brown presents the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Big Band in concert at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall to celebrate the music of Edward Kennedy ‘Duke’ Ellington in Black, Brown & Beige: The Music of Duke Ellington. YolanDa will take a look at some of Duke Ellington’s BBC interviews, including his 1971 meeting with jazz critic Stanley Dance in which he recalled how his race affected with work as a bandleader and composer in the 1930s and 40s.

 

YolanDa is a broadcaster and musician known for her effervescent energy, passion and curiosity. As a presenter she has hosted  Young Jazz Musician of the Year and Last Night of the Proms From Around the UK for BBC Four.
