Louise Mai Newberry has recently played Dogberry in Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory’s 20th anniversary production of Much Ado About Nothing, having played Madame Aung in Plenty at Chichester Festival Theatre over the summer.

 

Before that, she was part of Yellow Earth’s Typhoon West at the Soho Theatre, All’s Well That Ends Well at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe and Anders Lustgarten’s Lampedusa at the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow.

 

Her vast theatrical experience includes work with Nottingham Playhouse, RSC, Arcola, HighTide, Unity Theatre Liverpool, Eastern Angles, The Factory, Bush Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Birmingham Rep, Leicester Haymarket, Orange Tree Theatre and Teatro Vivo, amongst others.

 

She has worked extensively with Tall Stories on The Gruffalo and The Snow Dragon, taking part in tours of the USA, Ireland and all over the UK as well as spending six months touring the ports of the British Isles on the UK’s only theatre ship.

 

On screen, she has appeared on Doctors, The Bill, Dream Machines and Future Makers, and was a regular in the BBC Worldwide series GOAL! She has recently appeared in The Good Listener and The Inspector Chen Novels on Radio 4, and you may have heard her voice as Flo the kitten on CBeebies’ Clifford’s Puppy Days or in Creative Assembly’s Total War.

 

Louise Mai trained at East 15 Acting School and read English at Cambridge University. She has worked in theatre, TV and voiceover consistently since. She also writes and performs as the comedy character ‘Precious Jade’.
