Anita Anand will be appearing in The Stolen Maharajah: Britain’s Indian Royal, part of the BBC’s Big British Asian Summer.
Maharajah Duleep Singh was an Indian King, taken by the British as a boy and brought up as an English aristocrat. He became a friend of Queen Victoria until he realised what had been done to him and turned rebel against the British Empire.
As the author of Sophia: Princess, Suffragette, Revolutionary, shortlisted for the Slightly Foxed Best First Biography Prize and winner of the Eastern Eye Alchemy Festival award for Literature, Anita is in a unique position to talk about Maharajah Duleep Singh through the life of his daughter, Sophia, and the legacy they both created in defining recent British and Indian history.
You can see The Stolen Maharajah: Britain’s Indian Royal on Sunday 12th August at 9pm on BBC 4.
