The Noel Gay Organisation was founded as Noel Gay Music in 1938 by Reginald Armitage, who composed under the name Noel Gay. In the 1950's he was joined in the company by his son Richard who founded the hugely successful Noel Gay Artists, firstly to provide singers to perform the copyrights and then to represent artists more generally. This was initially a music based agency and publisher but soon moved towards the growing television industry. In the 1970's Richard's sons Charles and Alex Armitage joined the company and Noel Gay was firmly established as the UK's premier entertainment agency. Noel Gay Theatre in the 1980's was responsible for such West End shows as High Society, The Rink, The Entertainer, Radio Times and the hugely successful Me and My Girl which ran on Broadway and around the World as well as eight years in London . Noel Gay Television followed, headed by Paul Jackson and Bill Cotton and producing hundreds of hours of television, most notably the long running Red Dwarf series. The Noel Gay Motion Picture Company co-produced Trainspotting and the 1989 Oscar winning short picture. The artists agency continues to be the principle business of the Noel Gay Organisation and the company is one of the most powerful and respected names in the business.
